End of Term Round Up 2024/2025

Updated: Jun 28

Another incredible academic year at Danscentre comes to a close! We have had an exceptionally busy time at Danscentre this year alongside preparation for our senior show ‘Encore’ that we wrapped up in early June. In the last few weeks of term, we have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating everybody's hard work. From inviting loved ones in to watch our preschool pupils' end of term demonstration to examining our P1-4 Ballet pupils' for their Danscentre Award it has been jam packed! Scroll below to read more about what's gone on at Danscentre this term to round up of the fantastic year it's been. We are wishing all of our Danscentre pupils, parents and friends a wonderful summer holiday.

Encore 2025

As we wrap up an unforgettable term at Danscentre, we are still glowing from the success of Encore – the school’s 13th major production and 8th production at His Majesty’s Theatre. This show has been a true celebration of talent and dedication of our senior students at Danscentre. Each individual brought their passion and commitment to the stage, creating a show to be remember for years to come. A huge thank you to everyone that made this show possible, and of course to our outstanding dancers who gave it their all. Encore 2025 was more than a performance; it was a showcase of what makes Danscentre so special. We look forward to our next chapter with excitement! Stay tuned for the photos and DVD’s from the show, more details will be shared with you soon.

We are also very proud to share how much we have raised from the show for the following charities:

CLAN: £2,000

Abernecessities: £2,000

A special mention to the Dancing Dad’s and Dancing Ladies for raising money to the following charities:

Dancing Dads - Maxilliofacial Unity at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary: £13,092

Dancing Ladies - Breast Cancer Care Now:  £2,150

2025 Leavers

It's been an emotional final week at Danscentre saying goodbye and good luck to our 2025 leavers,

many of whom have danced with us for 15 years since their first pre-school class! Parents and loved ones were welcomed into the building to celebrate everything they have achieved at Danscentre including many shows, exams, classes and performances! We will miss their energy in the studios but wish them all the best for their next steps.

Scottish Ballet Nutcracker

Once again Danscentre partnered with Scottish ballet to train and select dancers to play the children within their famous and ever popular production of the Nutcracker in January 2025. 11 Danscentre pupils went on to perform their roles with personality and professionalism within the Inverness and Aberdeen Productions. Lorna Scott trained and prepared them so well for this once in a lifetime opportunity, congratulations to all involved!

Higher and National 5 Dance

Take a look at our National 5 and Higher Dance students after their practical exam. A big well done to them all for completing the course earlier this year in March. The group have all shown so much development in their knowledge of dance, choreography and team work over this year and we are very proud. Fingers crossed for their results in August! Danscentre is proud to be an SQA Accredited centre and has also been able to offer the National Progression Award (NPA) to several groups of eligible students this year, many of whom are only in S1!

Exams

Danscentre is proud to offer a wide range of dance exams and assessments throughout esteemed organisations such as RAD, ISTD, SQA, Royal Ballet School, Dance Leaders UK and our own internal exams. Last week, our Primary 1-4 Ballet students were examined by Ms Whyte for their Danscentre Ballet Award and this week two of our senior pupils have sat their RAD Advanced Foundation examination. Completing an exam, whatever the level is a huge achievement and is a testament to the hard work and dedication put into weekly classes and students should be really proud of themselves!

Alongside RAD and ISTD exams, Danscentre is one of only two dance schools in Scotland registered to offer The Royal Ballet School’s Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme (ATAP). ATAP extends The Royal Ballet School’s System of Training to the students of affiliated dance teachers. ATAP students study ballet technique, but also learn to create and appreciate Ballet, with opportunities to choreograph and review dance works. This ensures a more holistic approach to the learning of dance, with students having access to The Royal Ballet’s ethos and expertise. As with other assessments within Danscentre, students are entered for the relevant ATAP Level when they have reached the required standard of learning.

We also held our own DC Award session alongside other Ballet and Modern exams. These DC Awards are designed to give children the opportunity to experience an exam like atmosphere, as it helps prepare them for their future in dance if they do decide to take the exam route. Internal DC Assessors/Teachers really enjoyed being able to watch students from other classes and recognise their progress.
