Spring Term 2024 Roundup

The Junior Show 'Once Upon a Dance' has been a huge highlight of the year, showcasing a wide range of our students and styles all the way from Pre-School to our Senior Leavers!

We think that this photo brilliantly sums up the experience of the show - a huge team effort between peers, assistants, teachers and Beach Ballroom/technical staff! Being on such a big stage is no mean feat for out littlest dancers and every class put their hard work into action with performance, technique and the joy of being on stage. We hope every participant had a fantastic experience and that it has inspired a life long love of the performing arts! Our senior dancers and assistants certainly did an amazing job too of inspiring our younger students both on stage and in how they assisted and spent time with the children backstage. Their help throughout the process has been thoroughly appreciated by teachers and younger children alike.

A special mention also has to go to our senior leavers, many of whom have been with us since pre-school and participated in the Pre-School show at the Beach Ballroom back in 2011! Their dedication, generosity of time and commitment to dance shone through in their captivating performances and we will be so sad to see them fly the DC nest in summer, although of course we are sure they will succeed with their next steps.

Swipe to see a picture of one of our Miss Honey's (Katie) back in her pre-school show!

THANK YOU

Of course we also want to say a massive thank you to all of the parents, friends and family who supported their dancers throughout the show as well as in their weekly dance classes. We massively appreciated all of your assistance in getting the children to joint and additional rehearsals as well as the many parent volunteers backstage - we could not have done this show without you!

HIGHER AND NATIONAL 5 DANCE

Amongst the show, 16 of our senior students ranging from S2 - S6 were also working on their Higher and National 5 choreographies and solos. Danscentre is proud to be able to offer this SQA accredited qualification every year with great results. They have all performed a contemporary and jazz solo in front of the examiner as well as having their peers perform their piece of choreography. There were some brilliant and personal themes explored in their choreographies ranging from chemical reactions to juvenile arthritis to the path to enlightenment. Only their written exam to go now in May!

RAD AND ISTD EXAMS

As this blog is being written we have an ISTD examiner in session examining 35 Grade 3 Modern students and Miss Whyte will be assessing out 7 Danscentre Grade 3 Modern Awards - an outstanding number of candidates working at this level here at DC! We also have a small exam session for RAD Advanced Foundation - these girls have worked very intelligently on this exam, learning the settings in a short space of time amongst a very busy schedule. We are sure all of the candidates hard work in and outside of class will pay off.
