Term 3: News and Updates

What a fantastic term it has been here at Danscentre! We have celebrated many successes over this term including iDance at HMT, student achievements, exams and more. Check out all of our news and what we have coming up in Term 4.

iDance Senior

iDance at HMT in March was a huge success with over 300 pupils treading the boards for the first time since 2017. We were so proud of each and every pupil and thankful to teachers, staff and parent helpers for their incredible work over the week and in the preparation. In total we raised over £8000 for our charities which is a phenomenal amount! See below links below to view and purchase more of the fabulous photos taken by Graham Read and Charlotte Kinsella:

iDance Junior

We are so excited to announce our iDance Junior Show will be taking place on the 4th-5th June at The Beach Ballroom. It's going to be a wonderful experience for our younger Danscentre students to perform in front of family and friends. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media accounts for pictures of the rehearsal process. Tickets available very soon!

Junior show fundraising events have begun with our Disney Dress Up for the last week of Term 3. Watch out for the knitted unicorn making her way out to venues in Term 4 - guess her birthday to win this unique prize! Monies raised will be donated to local children's charity AberNecessities.

Exam Success

We received wonderful news recently regarding our examination and awards session which took place in December 2021. The results are tremendous, and are a credit to our highly skilled staff and dedicated students. Out of 101 RAD Ballet Graded and Class Award students, 74% gained Distinction and 24% Merit. Along with 29 ISTD Modern Dance results gaining 49% Distinction and 51% Merit.

A special mention to RAD Intermediate student Lidia Gaudie, who despite major invasive surgery to correct the scoliosis in her spine continues to dance with great determination and passion. Lidia successfully gained Merit in this prestigious vocational exam. An inspiration to many young people who can learn that challenges can be overcome with the right support.

Congratulations to all of our DC exam students!

SQA Dance Exams

Our Higher & Nat 5 students have done an outstanding job over the year preparing for their SQA examination which took place in March. Pupils from S3 - S6 performed brilliantly in their solos and original choreography pieces. This is the first SQA exams held within Danscentre since 2019, with all students putting in an incredible amount of effort. Well done to all!

RAD Exams March 22

Danscentre send out a big congratulations to our younger DC students who took part in their Pre-Primary and Primary RAD Ballet exams this term. For many of these young people, it was their first exam experience and they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience with many smiles and great enthusiasm.

Our Preschool children will get their very own demonstration day on Sunday 19th June at Peterculter Village Hall - an exciting opportunity to perform for family and see senior pupils in action!

Past and Present Student Success

We have some very exciting news - Ex DC student Alfie McPherson (2010-2018) who is currently in his final year at the school of Hamburg Ballet in Germany has been offered a contract with the main Hamburg Ballet company! Contracts as such are so elusive, with only a few dancers achieving such a coveted offer making this a huge achievement for Alfie!

Whilst attending Dancentre, Alfie participated in all styles of dance classes and went on to gain his RAD Advanced 2 Ballet and ISTD Advanced 2 Modern with Distinction, as well as achieving an A at Higher Dance. Alfie went on to start his Vocational training at Central School of Ballet, before transferring to Hamburg. We here at DC are so proud of the hard work and mindset Alfie has put in over the years to get to the place where he is now.

We would like to congratulate Morven Aitkenhead on gaining two prestigious places at The Royal Ballet School Spring Intensive this April in London and the Paris Opera Ballet Summer Intensive in July in Paris. This is a great achievement for Morven as she has been selected from hundreds of elite candidates worldwide to gain these places.

Congratulations to our vocational student Scott Milne who has successfully gained a place at The Royal Ballet School Summer Intensive in London this August. With very limited spaces available, places are highly sought after and in great demand from students worldwide. This is a brilliant accomplishment for Scott!

We also send a big congratulations to Lily-Bell Gill, who has successfully gained a position in The National Youth Choir of Scotland. A fantastic achievement to have been selected as hundreds of singers throughout Scotland auditioned to gain a place!

Easter Dance School Good Luck!

Good luck to all our pupils off to study dance at an Easter holiday event this year! Morven is travelling to London for the Royal Ballet School intensive, Kiera is also heading to London for the Central School of Ballet intensive and Erin and Ava-Lily are attending Yorkshire Ballet Seminars.

Enjoy the Easter break and we will see you for an exciting summer term from Monday 18th April!
