Winter Term 2023 Roundup

Lots of hard work has been happening in the studios this term with preparations for our Junior Show 'Once Upon a Dance' well underway for our youngest pupils and elder students working towards various genres of exams and assessments, as well as plenty of festive fun! Keep reading to hear more about what's gone on at DC this term and what is coming up for all ages!

Junior Show 2024 'Once Upon a Dance'

We're thrilled to be holding a Junior Show in 2024 at The Beach Ballroom! This is a fantastic opportunity for our Primary 1 - 5 students to dance on a big stage, get dressed up and make special memories. Dances and costumes fittings have been underway this term and the dancers are all very excited about the show! We're looking forward to welcoming dancers friends and family to the Beach Ballroom to see them shine! Our pre-school classes will also have the opportunity to dance on the big stage, more details coming soon about tickets.

Exam and assessment success - RAD, ISTD and NPA (SQA)

Meanwhile, further up the school various classes have been working towards exams and assessments in different dance genres.

In November we held a Royal Academy of Dance exam session, entering vocational students for their Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate exam. Vocational Exams are a huge achievement and teachers were very proud of the students and their hard earned results! A special mention to the Intermediate Foundation Group who all recieved a Distinction!

We also held an ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers Dancing) filmed session in December entering a small group of Grade 5 and Intermediate Modern students.

Did you know Danscentre is also an SQA approved centre? Our National 5 and Higher Dance students sat their choreography prelim last weekend and Miss Whyte and Miss Louis really enjoyed seeing everybodies ideas come to life and appreciated the effort that had been put into rehearsing over the past few months!

As an SQA approved centre Danscentre is also able to offer National Progression Awards (NPA) to specific classes. To achieve this award students must film classwork, perform a solo and anaylse repertoire. Students completed and filmed their classwork this term which looked brilliant! They will complete the rest of the award in 2024.

Several dancers undertook their dance leadership qualifications in summer and they've recently receievd their certificates. Lots of those students regularly assist in classes and are adored by the younger students!

Adult classes

Meanwhile our adult classes - tap, ballet and dance workout - have also been in full force this term! We finished off the term in fashion with some brilliant festive numbers (and festive outfits too!) The next block of adult classes is now available to book here: https://www.danscentre.com/adults. Workshops

We were delighted to hold commercial jazz workshops with DC alumni Cameron Flynn who was back in Aberdeen performing lead roles in Matthew Bourne's New Adventures - a huge achievement! Staff thoroughly enjoyed his performances and students loved the workshops!

SAVE THE DATE! We're also thrilled to be offering a ballet workshop in January with the wonderful Bethany Kingsley-Garner, a principal dancer with Scottish Ballet! Booking will be open in the new year for this workshop

Festive Fun

The Intermediate Foundation Modern class were lucky to be invited to perform in the Christmas Parade on Union Street! They were so professional and we had lots of lovely feedback about their performance - well done everyone. We've had some brilliant Christmas cards in for our festive feature week of design a card and lots of festive fun has been had the last classes of the term.
